ZAMBEZI VALLEY REACTION UNIT (ZAVARU) BASE:

ZPWMA’s anti-poaching efforts in the whole of Lower Zambezi Valley were enhanced through a vital establishment of ZAVARU Base, through funding from Zambezi Elephant Fund (ZEF) and Tashinga Initiative (TI). This project was completed in October 2016 after incredible support from donors all around the world.  Furthermore, after Tashinga’s discussions with Paul Bewsher of Peace Parks Foundation, Paul expressed further interest in supporting this unique Antipoaching Base with the establishment of a permanent hard surface Parade Ground.
This new parade ground provides the all-essential space and facility for drills, parades, and antipoaching patrol unit displays, enhancing discipline, self-awareness and pride within the Ranger Patrol Units.
Making even further good use of the hard surface, at the request by Officers Commanding, basketball and volleyball court is being established and a photo will be published as soon as it is completed. Both Basket Ball and Volley Ball are favourite activities for Rangers – let’s get the competitions going!

Very sincere thanks to these generous Donors who recognize the significance of the important role that the new infrastructure plays for Antipoaching.
